Sunday morning, tie the tie straight and make sure you
aren’t wearing sneakers. Its called for Sunday best. Put
gel in your hair and spike it. You want to make a good
impression. Don’t look sluggish and if you do, hose down
your face with freezing water. And while you’re at it,
lather some soap on it too. Now when we arrive, its smiles
and handshakes all around. It does not call for simple nods
and halfway glances. Stand up straight and sing loud with
all the emotions in your little body. In the end, this will
all tie together.
Sign up now to give notes to the Scrawlers you're reading and scrawl your own stories.
And it does tie together in the end, nice circular wording! The voice is consistent and I can still feel Jamaica Kincaid's "Girl" in here, which helps it as an imitation.
Thanks for writing, Emily.
